Park Junhee, Gwanak-gu Mayor, Awarded Certificate of Appreciation for Contributions to COVID-19 Vaccination Center
Over 175,000 Vaccinated in 6 Months Since Opening in April... Contributing to Herd Immunity Formation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) ended the operation of the COVID-19 vaccination center with the last vaccination on the 29th of last month.
The district opened the 1st vaccination center at the Gwanak-gu Citizens' Sports Complex on April 15 and the 2nd vaccination center at the Gwanak-gu Civil Defense Education Center on July 5, vaccinating more than 175,000 people over a period of more than six months, making every effort to establish herd immunity in the local community.
As a result, as of the 29th, out of 487,471 eligible residents in Gwanak-gu, 410,071 (84.1%) received the first dose, and 372,751 (76.5%) completed vaccination.
On that day, Mayor Park Junhee visited the 1st and 2nd vaccination centers and personally presented certificates of appreciation to 132 staff members who devoted themselves to vaccination on the front lines.
Mayor Park expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to everyone who did their best and quietly fulfilled their duties without sparing any effort even in this unprecedented crisis, we were able to carry out vaccinations quickly and efficiently."
The district has been working to improve working conditions by providing separate rest areas for staff working under difficult circumstances due to the periodically changing vaccination situation and various civil complaints.
After the center's closure, out of 110 administrative personnel, 86, excluding 24 who wished to terminate their employment, will have their contracts extended and will be deployed to COVID-19 response tasks considering their intentions.
After the vaccination center closes, the system will switch to vaccination through entrusted medical institutions and public health centers. Those who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19 can visit local entrusted medical institutions for COVID-19 vaccination without prior reservation after confirming same-day vaccination availability.
Additional vaccinations (booster shots) for seniors aged 60 and over and high-risk groups who have passed six months since completing vaccination will also be conducted at entrusted medical institutions. Undocumented persons such as illegal immigrants and homeless people without registration numbers can receive temporary management numbers at public health centers to get vaccinated.
