Gyeonggi-do Develops Fair Guidelines for Freelancers
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has independently established a Freelancer Fair Guideline containing precautions for the contract signing process to improve the unfair working conditions of freelancers.
Freelancers are individuals who provide labor independently based on their own judgment after setting conditions such as the required period or tasks in various industries including content and information and communication technology (IT).
Although they hold a status similar to workers, they are often not recognized as workers under related laws such as the Labor Standards Act, and thus frequently do not receive protection against unfair practices.
The fair guideline prepared by the province this time includes causes and current status of unfair contracts, types of unfair contracts, precautions when signing contracts, related regulations, and examples of unfair cases.
Based on this, the province plans to develop a freelancer fair trade education program in November and conduct training, and provide it free of charge through the Fair Trade Support Center website and Gyeonggi Province lifelong learning portal, GSEEK.
