Damyang-gun Awarded 'Garden Tourism City of the Year' at Garden Tourism Conference
Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone Recognized for Achievements Including Hosting the Korea Garden Culture Center
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 29th, Jeonnam Damyang-gun announced that it received the Garden Tourism City of the Year Award at the ‘2021 IGTN Garden Tourism Conference’ held at Damyang Resort on the 28th.
This conference, under the theme ‘The Present and Future Potential of Garden Tourism in Damyang-gun,’ was attended by various garden-related experts including academics and public officials. It proceeded with presentations on 10 topics and a comprehensive discussion, covering advanced domestic and international cases and prospects in the garden tourism sector after COVID-19.
Damyang-gun was recognized for achievements such as designation as a humanities education and traditional garden special zone, various projects to expand the base of Korean-style gardens, fostering new garden industries, and attracting the National Korean Garden Culture Center, a specialized institution supporting the garden industry.
The Garden Tourism Conference was organized to commemorate the development of the Korean garden industry and the attraction of the Damyang Korean Garden Culture Center. Every year, it evaluates and awards garden tourism-related content divided by category.
A county official said, “At this conference, policies and directions contributing to the spread of garden culture in daily life were discussed in depth with continuous consensus. Going forward, centered on the Korean Garden Culture Center to be hosted in Damyang, we will do our best to draw attention to garden culture, form garden networks, and develop garden tourism.”
