The signing ceremony held at Bundang Doosan Tower was attended by Lee Seung-woo, President of Korea Southern Power, and Jeong Yeon-in, President of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, among others.
Through this agreement, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will promote the development of hydrogen combustion burners and hydrogen turbines based on domestic technology, as well as secure mass production technology for components. Korea Southern Power plans to build a hydrogen combined power plant applying hydrogen combustion burners.
The two companies will particularly strengthen mutual cooperation in establishing hydrogen supply infrastructure utilizing renewable energy and collaborate to convert gas turbines within combined thermal power plants operated by Korea Southern Power into hydrogen turbines. This demonstration of hydrogen turbines using green hydrogen is the first of its kind in Korea.
Hydrogen turbines are key main equipment of hydrogen combined power plants that use hydrogen or hydrogen-LNG mixed fuel. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is developing hydrogen combustion turbines that use only hydrogen as fuel, producing zero carbon emissions, and is also promoting the development of hydrogen-LNG mixed fuel combustion turbines as an intermediate step.
Jeong Yeon-in, President of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said, "Applying hydrogen combustion turbines using green hydrogen to power plants can contribute not only to carbon neutrality but also to the activation of the hydrogen economy," adding, "We will strive to ensure the successful promotion of this demonstration project through cooperation with Korea Southern Power."
