'Korea's Famous Dogs' Commemorative and Regular Stamps, 3 Types on Sale from the 29th

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post will issue 630,000 commemorative stamps starting from the 29th, featuring three newly designed regular stamps of 10 won, 50 won, and 100 won, as well as three stamps depicting the "Famous Korean Dogs," which are designated natural monuments.
This is a follow-up measure following the postal rate increase in September this year. Along with the adjustment of the basic postage for standard mail, non-standard mail rates, and registered mail basic rates, three new designs of regular stamps priced at 430 won, 520 won, and 2,530 won were issued. Additionally, three regular stamps in the denominations of 10 won, 50 won, and 100 won were newly designed.
The 10-won stamp features the internationally endangered species "Great Scarlet Mormon Butterfly" (Keun Juhong Bujeonnabi), the 50-won stamp depicts "Yugwa," a traditional Korean confectionery, and the 100-won stamp shows the "Long-tailed Robin," a summer migratory bird of the Korean Peninsula. Also, 630,000 commemorative stamps featuring the "Famous Korean Dogs"?Jindo Dog from Jindo, Sapsal Dog from Gyeongsan, and Donggyeong from Gyeongju?designated as natural monuments, will be issued.
The beloved Jindo Dog, known for its beautiful appearance and loyalty, was designated as Natural Monument No. 53 in 1962 with the enactment of the Cultural Heritage Protection Act. The Sapsal Dog, called the "dog that chases away ghosts," is a native breed from Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, and was designated Natural Monument No. 368 in 1992. Donggyeong, the Gyeongju dog, is the oldest existing native dog breed and was designated Natural Monument No. 540 in 2012.

Regular stamps can be purchased at nearby post offices, and commemorative stamps can be bought by visiting a nearby post office or applying through the Internet Post Office.
