Signed a Business Agreement with the Ministry of Employment and Labor
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 27th that Starbucks Coffee Korea has been certified as the 9th 'Youth Employment Support Membership' company.
On the same day, Minister of Employment and Labor An Kyung-duk, Starbucks CEO Song Hoseop, and Vice Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation Lee Dong-geun signed a business agreement at the Starbucks training center in Jung-gu, Seoul, to expand the Youth Employment Support Project. The Youth Employment Support Project is a government-supported program that aids companies' youth employment support initiatives.
Starbucks received high praise for creating a barista work experience training course for youth participating in the Ministry of Employment and Labor's National Employment Support System and for promoting youth employment support programs. Starbucks also announced plans to hire approximately 1,600 new employees within this year and to reform the wage system for managers and staff.
Next month, Starbucks will promote the government's key youth employment policies through bulletin boards at 1,600 Starbucks stores nationwide for one month. The 12th 'Talent Donation Cafe,' which supports remodeling and coffee education for cafes run by youth, is also scheduled to open within the year.
Minister An said, "Starbucks is actively supporting the employment of vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and women with career interruptions," adding, "I am very grateful to be working together to revitalize youth employment through today's agreement ceremony."
