[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] DB Group announced on the 27th that Chairman Kim Nam-ho will participate in the eco-friendly campaign 'GoGo Challenge.'
The GoGo Challenge is an eco-friendly campaign organized by the Ministry of Environment since January this year, encouraging individuals to pledge one "thing not to do" and one "action to take" in their daily lives to reduce plastic use, and then nominate the next participant in a relay format.
Chairman Kim said, "The small actions of each individual are the first step to changing the world," presenting the message "Reduce disposable cups (Go), use eco-cups (Go)." Eco-cups are reusable cups made from biodegradable plastics (PLA) extracted from eco-friendly materials such as corn starch and natural fibers.
Previously, DB Group has conducted various eco-friendly management activities as part of its ESG management (Environment, Social, Governance). Notably, DB Insurance declared coal divestment in 2019, the first in the domestic financial industry, and has expanded investments in eco-friendly energy companies. In addition, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, it developed environmental liability insurance, a compensation liability insurance for hazardous material handling facilities, and sold 6.6 million ESG-linked insurance products in 2020 alone.
DB HiTek, responsible for the foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) business, introduced 20 greenhouse gas emission reduction devices (plasma scrubbers) in 2020. It also operates a reclaimed water system, a facility to prevent water pollution. Furthermore, through waste separation and a parts recycling center, it achieved a 98% waste recycling rate as of 2020.
Additionally, affiliates such as DB Life, DB Financial Investment, and DB Savings Bank practice environmental protection through campaigns like using personal mugs, turning off lights during lunch breaks, shutting down PCs when leaving work, and creating paperless (electronic document) office environments.
