'Ex-convict 60s Male Damages Electronic Ankle Bracelet and Escapes... Police Search Underway'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A man in his 60s, known to have 35 prior convictions including violations of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Offenses, damaged his location tracking electronic device (electronic anklet) and fled, and the police are currently pursuing him.
According to the police on the 26th, Mr. A (62), whose registered address is in Changnyeong-gun, traveled from Goryeong, Gyeongbuk to Suncheon, Jeonnam using his car between 10 and 11 p.m. on the 25th.
Mr. A was under a nighttime outing restriction order but moved to Suncheon by vehicle, and around 2:55 a.m. that day, he damaged the electronic anklet and disappeared.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed this fact and requested cooperation from the police, and it is known that the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency is currently investigating.
The police investigating found Mr. A’s car and mobile phone near the location where he damaged the electronic anklet.
The police believe Mr. A abandoned the car and fled to a mountain behind a residential area, deploying about 80 officers including a riot squad and a helicopter to conduct a search.
