President Moon: "Reuniting is Important"... Lee Jae-myung: "Doing Our Best for Moon Government's Success" (Summary)
President Moon and Lee Jae-myung, ruling party presidential candidates, have a tea talk at Cheong's Sangchunjae... "The presidential election is about choosing a leader for a better future"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] "I think the meeting with former (Democratic Party of Korea) leader Lee Nak-yeon on Sunday was very good."
President Moon Jae-in said this on the morning of the 26th while having tea with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, at Sangchunjae in the Blue House. President Moon emphasized, "After the competition, it is important to heal the wounds caused by that competition and become one again." This was a word of encouragement for Lee's efforts to resolve the aftereffects of the primary through his tea meeting with former leader Lee Nak-yeon.
Candidate Lee was one of the presidential candidates competing with President Moon in the 2017 presidential election. President Moon said, "Our candidate Lee Jae-myung competed with me in the party primary during the last presidential election, and even after the competition ended, we joined forces again and achieved a regime change together."
President Moon brought up the National Assembly policy speech, explaining, "Actually, if you think about it, next year's budget is mostly for the next government rather than our government," and added, "We prepared the budget considering that next year's budget will mainly be used by the next government."
President Moon said, "I believe that the presidential election is ultimately about the people choosing a leader for a better future," and emphasized, "From experience, the most important thing is policy."
President Moon said, "During the presidential election process, discovering many good policies and then engaging in fair competition with other candidates using those policies is a process that greatly contributes to national development."
President Moon said, "Completed policies become a blueprint for leading the next government, so I ask candidate Lee Jae-myung to develop many policies during the presidential election process and engage in fair competition through policies. I would like to extend the same request to other candidates as well."
Candidate Lee referred to President Moon's policy speech, saying, "I strongly agreed that in this new era of transition, future-oriented industrial restructuring must be done through large-scale national intervention and investment, and future industries must be created."
Regarding climate change response, Candidate Lee said, "From the perspective of entrepreneurs on the ground, isn't it unsettling? I really agree that the state must make large-scale investments," and added, "I think our President has done a great job carrying out the Democratic Party's core values of livelihood, reform, and peace."
In particular, Candidate Lee said, "As the governor of Gyeonggi Province, I am part of the Moon Jae-in government. I have done my best so far, and I will continue to do my best so that our Moon Jae-in government remains a successful and historic government." President Moon said, "Please continue to support me until the end."
President Moon mentioned the carbon neutrality scenario, explaining, "Our greenhouse gas emissions peaked in 2018. So, compared to that, we are actually reducing emissions rapidly and steeply in a short period, so our goal is a much more bold and daring challenge."
