Samsung Electronics Expands Sign Language Consultation Service for the Hearing Impaired to Over 50 Countries

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that it will expand sign language consultation services for the hearing impaired in major countries around the world and plans to provide services to more than 50 countries' hearing impaired by the end of this year.
Samsung Electronics currently provides sign language consultation services in 40 countries including the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Dubai, and Indonesia. Hearing impaired individuals can access two-way video calls through the guidance page on Samsung.com to receive real-time sign language consultations from sign language counselors. Samsung Electronics also supports sign language in frequently visited online content and is expanding sign language consultation services for hearing impaired people who experience difficulties offline at stores and repair centers.
In Turkey, where Samsung Electronics first introduced sign language consultation services in 2015, the promotional video "Samsung Hearing Hands" recorded over 10 million cumulative views on Facebook, attracting attention from local media outlets. The Presidential Secretary and the Minister of Economy also sent government-level appreciation to the corporation.
Additionally, on the 23rd of last month, to commemorate the "International Day of Sign Languages" established by the United Nations (UN), Samsung Electronics newly introduced this service in seven countries including the United States and Serbia.
At Samsung Electronics' marketing center "Samsung 837" located in the heart of New York, USA, on-site sign language consultation services at the store began, and a virtual tour of the service was conducted for the hearing impaired. In Serbia, in collaboration with the Hearing Impaired Association, a sign language interpretation service using tablets was established, and the chairman of the Disabled Persons Association presented a plaque of appreciation to Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics plans to continuously strengthen social contribution activities that consider socially vulnerable groups through various cooperative activities with disability associations in each country.

Kim Hyungnam, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics Global CS Center, said, "The sign language consultation service, which considers hearing impaired people who cannot receive consultation and technical support even if they have difficulties using products, is to raise accessibility for socially vulnerable groups to a higher level and fulfill social responsibility as a global company," adding, "We will continue to improve and expand services where socially vulnerable groups can feel changes at online and offline customer contact points."
