[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The coalition negotiations led by the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), which won the German federal election on the 26th of last month, have entered the main phase. This coalition is known as the "traffic light" coalition (Social Democrats - Red, Free Democratic Party - Yellow, Greens - Green).
The Social Democrats, the Greens who emphasize climate change response, and the pro-business Free Democratic Party began formal negotiations to form a coalition government on the 21st (local time).
About 300 politicians from the three parties have been divided into 22 working groups to draft the detailed outline of the coalition agreement by November 10. Afterwards, the negotiation leaders aim to finalize the agreement by the end of November and target the inauguration of Olaf Scholz, the SPD's chancellor candidate, on December 6. This means they aim to form the coalition within 50 days of starting negotiations.
