US Department of Commerce "Cooperates with SK Hynix, Intel, and Others on Semiconductor Information Requests"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] On the 21st (local time), it was announced that multiple companies, including Intel and SK Hynix, have expressed their willingness to cooperate regarding the U.S. Department of Commerce's request for data submission from global semiconductor companies.
According to major foreign media, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Commerce stated, "Companies including Intel, General Motors (GM), Infineon, and SK Hynix have announced plans to disclose information soon," adding, "We greatly appreciate these efforts and encourage other companies to participate as well."
He explained, "The information disclosed by companies is important to alleviate concerns about semiconductor supply chain transparency," and added, "Whether mandatory measures need to be taken depends on how many companies participate and the quality of the information provided."
Earlier, the White House and the Department of Commerce requested companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, TSMC, and Intel to submit answers to a questionnaire on supply chain information including semiconductor inventory, orders, and sales by November 8.
There have been concerns that although the U.S. government formally framed this as a 'request,' it is effectively close to a mandate and demands sensitive corporate information.
Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor foundry company, stated that it will not provide sensitive corporate information.
Concerns have also been raised domestically. On the 6th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy commented on the U.S. request, saying, "The scope is extensive and includes many trade secrets, causing significant domestic concerns."
