Hanwha Systems Signs MOU for Technology and Export Cooperation with Israeli Defense Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hanwha Systems is set to strengthen its export competitiveness by forming partnerships with leading global defense companies.
Hanwha Systems announced on the 21st that during the 'Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (Seoul ADEX 2021)', it will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for 'mutual technical cooperation and exploring export opportunities' with Israel's leading defense companies Elta Systems and Elbit Systems, respectively.
On this day, Hanwha Systems will sign an 'MOU for AESA Radar Export' with Elta Systems. Through this agreement, the two companies plan to combine their strengths by integrating Hanwha Systems' AESA radar antennas and power supplies with Elta's radar signal processors to promote the export of AESA radars for aircraft in the global market. Elta is a radar-specialized company under Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a state-owned enterprise, and possesses signal processor technology for AESA radars.
Hanwha Systems is developing AESA radar, known as the 'eyes of the Korean fighter jet,' in collaboration with the Agency for Defense Development. In particular, by applying gallium nitride (GaN)-based materials to the core component TRM (Transmit/Receive Module), they have reduced size, increased output, and lowered heat generation, significantly improving efficiency. This advancement enables the implementation of AESA antennas of various sizes.
Earlier, on the 19th, Hanwha Systems signed an 'MOU for comprehensive mutual cooperation in the UAM and avionics fields' with Elbit Systems. Through this agreement, the two companies plan to actively explore cooperative areas that can create synergy not only in the military but also in the civilian industrial sector.
Elbit is Israel's leading private defense company recognized for its top-level technology in developing various avionics equipment, system integration, and performance upgrades. In particular, its Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD), which maximizes 360˚ situational awareness and instantaneous response for aircraft pilots, holds world-class technology.
Hanwha Systems expects to collaborate with Elbit, which develops and supplies essential sensors for flight safety, enemy attack response, evasion, and penetration maneuvers of aircraft, to mutually cooperate in urban air mobility and defense aviation sectors. Additionally, Hanwha Systems is promoting the use of its AESA radar in Elbit's overseas aircraft performance upgrade projects.
