LG Energy Solution Partners with Yonsei University to Establish Battery Contract Department
Establishment of 'Graduate Program in Secondary Battery Convergence Engineering' at Yonsei University
Full Tuition and Living Expenses Supported... Participation in LG Energy Solution Field Projects
Expectations for Training Battery-Specialized Experts
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] LG Energy Solution has established a contract department with Yonsei University to directly nurture future battery talent. This decision comes from the urgent need to secure talent as battery demand surges sharply alongside the faster-than-expected spread of electric vehicles.
On the 19th, LG Energy Solution held a remote video conference at its headquarters, Daejeon Technology Research Institute, and Yonsei University Seoul Campus to sign an agreement to operate the 'Secondary Battery Convergence Engineering Cooperative Program.'
The 'Secondary Battery Convergence Engineering Cooperative Program' is a 'contract department' that guarantees employment upon degree completion. It selects master's, doctoral, and integrated master's-doctoral course students, targeting new graduate students for the first semester of the 2022 academic year. Students receive full tuition and living expenses support and participate in LG Energy Solution’s on-site projects during their degree program to conduct research focused on actual industrial sites.
Additionally, employment at LG Energy Solution is guaranteed after degree completion. Professors from Yonsei University's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering participate in this newly established department.
LG Energy Solution established the battery contract department to actively nurture outstanding talent as the battery industry grows rapidly, thereby solidifying its unique competitiveness as a global leading battery company.
Through this new contract department, LG Energy Solution expects to cultivate core researchers who can secure next-generation battery technologies, which are strategic research tasks, and enhance the technological capabilities of battery production bases worldwide.
Moreover, by proactively training specialized personnel who are insufficient compared to the rapidly growing battery market size, it is expected to help resolve the national shortage of specialized technical personnel.
Kim Heung-sik, Vice President and CHO of LG Energy Solution, said, "LG Energy Solution is establishing itself as an advanced company leading future industries such as next-generation battery development and battery reuse," adding, "We will spare no support to help Yonsei University’s ‘Secondary Battery Convergence Engineering Cooperative Program’ grow into the best educational institution nurturing excellent battery talent leading advanced technology."
