At a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Office on the same day, former Prosecutor General Yoon said, "He has helped our camp in many ways before, and this time he willingly accepted this difficult position," adding, "It feels like our camp has gained a great ally," expressing his thoughts on the recruitment.
Joo, a former judge, was first elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2004 representing Daegu Suseong and maintained his constituency in Daegu five times until last year's general election. During that time, he served as a special minister, presidential political advisor, chairman of the Policy Committee, and floor leader. Joo praised Yoon, saying, "I am confident that Yoon, the People Power Party's winning candidate, will bring regime change by defeating Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party," and added, "Yoon stood alone to bravely oppose the regime's ruthless oppression, awakening hope for regime change among the despairing People Power Party and its members." He also said, "The legitimacy and certainty of regime change are thanks to Yoon's efforts."
At this event, Joo also strongly criticized the Moon Jae-in administration to argue the necessity of regime change. He pointed out, "The five years of the Moon Jae-in government were truly a disaster and a period of self-harm for the people of the Republic of Korea," and added, "There is no need to mention the destruction of the rule of law, double standards, and shameless acts." He further stated, "The overwhelming majority of the people want regime change, which reflects the public sentiment," and evaluated, "Looking at Lee Jae-myung's track record, it is obvious how Korea would look if he were to take power."
Former Prosecutor General Yoon said he contacted Joo several times to recruit him as the head of the campaign committee. After the press conference, Yoon told reporters, "Joo is a senior in the legal community, and since he entered politics, I have personally respected and followed him well."
