BMW Production Losses Due to South African Metalworkers' Strike
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Production at BMW's main assembly plant, operated by the largest single union in South Africa, the Metalworkers' Union, has been impacted.
According to foreign media on the 11th (local time), Hailey Philander, BMW spokesperson, stated, "There have been production losses since the strike began. About 700 vehicles were not produced."
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) entered a strike on the 5th, citing a deadlock in wage negotiations with the employer. NUMSA has approximately 155,000 members.
