Gangjin-gun Selected for 2022 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project Competition

Secured 3 Billion KRW in Project Funds... Expansion to All Areas of Gangjin-gun by 2024

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 12th that it has been selected for the 2022 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and promoted by the Korea Energy Agency, securing a project budget of 3 billion KRW.

The Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project is a program that supports part of the project costs when energy sources suitable for on-site conditions, such as solar power and solar heat, are installed in houses and buildings in specific areas to respond to environmental issues, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve energy self-sufficiency.

In March, Gangjin-gun formed a consortium with renewable energy equipment companies and design and supervision firms to prepare for the public offering project. They selected four areas with abundant sunlight and favorable conditions for solar power installation?Gangjin-eup, Gundo-myeon, Doam-myeon, and Sinjeon-myeon?as target sites, and made efforts for project selection through demand surveys, field investigations, and plan preparation.

With this project selection, Gangjin-gun plans to install 466 solar power sites totaling 1,652 kW and 15 solar heat sites covering 90㎡ in 2022, actively responding to climate change and expecting to improve residents' quality of life and develop into an eco-friendly city by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “By promoting the Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project, we have taken a step closer to realizing carbon neutrality by reducing residents' electricity bills and fossil fuel use. We will do our best to expand the project to the entire Gangjin-gun area by 2024, create energy self-sufficient villages, and make Gangjin an environmentally friendly city.”
