Orion Completes Third-Party Verification of 'Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions,' First in Domestic Food Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Orion announced on the 12th that it has completed third-party verification in accordance with international standards for greenhouse gas emissions from overseas subsidiaries' business sites in China, Vietnam, Russia, and other countries, certified by the Korea Standards Association.
Orion is the first company in the domestic food industry to receive third-party verification for greenhouse gas emissions from global business sites. Starting with this verification, Orion plans to derive reduction targets based on emission data by source and disclose the implementation results externally.
Orion expanded the scope of verification beyond direct emissions from fossil fuel combustion and indirect emissions from external electricity use to include overseas business sites and other indirect emission sectors not covered by regulatory scopes. In particular, it tracked detailed carbon footprints of logistics vehicles, which fall under other indirect emissions.
Since 2014, Orion has adopted ethical management as the group’s management policy and has led eco-friendly activities through initiatives such as the ‘Good Packaging Project,’ which reduces packaging materials and printing frequency. In March, Orion established a ‘Green TFT’ composed of practical staff from six departments including production, facilities, and management to promote integrated global carbon emission management and eco-friendly activities throughout the entire process of development, production, sales, and disposal. Recently, Orion was recognized for its efforts and achievements in reducing greenhouse gases at the National Quality Circle Competition, winning the highest award, the Presidential Gold Prize, for two consecutive years.
