Safety and Health Corporation and Public Procurement Service Join Hands for Safety Prevention in Construction Industry with High Industrial Accident Death Rates
Safety Prevention Agreement for Construction Sites on the 8th
"Half of Industrial Accident Deaths Occur at Construction Sites... Strengthening Safety Management"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency announced on the 8th that it has signed a business agreement with the Public Procurement Service to improve the safety level of construction sites, which account for more than half of industrial accident fatalities in Korea.
The agreement was established to strengthen the safety management system at construction sites by supporting the Public Procurement Service's 'Customized Service System.' This system allows the Public Procurement Service to fully or partially manage planning-design, construction, and post-management on behalf of demand institutions that are planning facility construction but lack professional personnel or experience. It operates on an annual scale of approximately 2.3 trillion KRW.
Under this agreement, the two organizations will conduct joint safety inspections and occasional patrol checks at construction sites managed under the customized service system. They will also establish a cooperative system to strengthen safety and health management, including support for safety education for construction site personnel.

Park Duyong, Director of the Agency, stated, "To reduce industrial accident fatalities, it is important to secure safety in the construction industry, which accounts for more than half of fatal accidents." He added, "Through this agreement, we will pool the agency's capabilities to raise the safety management level at more construction sites and protect workers' health."
