Justice Party, December 12 Presidential Primary Runoff... Sim Sang-jung vs. Lee Jeong-mi Showdown
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Justice Party presidential candidates Assemblywoman Sim Sang-jung and former leader Lee Jeong-mi will hold a runoff election for the presidential primary on the 12th.
On the 6th, the Justice Party announced that since no candidate received a majority in the online party member vote and ARS (automatic response service) and postal voting conducted since the 1st, a runoff vote will be held on the 12th.
Assemblywoman Sim ranked first with 5,433 votes (46.4%) out of a total of 11,828 votes but did not achieve a majority. Former leader Lee came in second with 4,436 votes (37.9%), former Vice Chair Kim Yoon-gi was third with 1,448 votes (12.3%), and former Gyeonggi Province Party Chair Hwang Soon-sik was fourth with 386 votes (3.3%).
The runoff vote will be held over six days from the 7th to the 12th, and the final candidate will be confirmed on the last day of voting, the 12th.
After the primary results were announced, Assemblywoman Sim said, "I believe this reflects the passionate desire of party members for a fierce primary," and added, "I trust that in the second round, they will choose a candidate who will confidently lead the Justice Party to victory in the general election."
