[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Kang In-gyu, mayor of Naju, Jeollanam-do, encouraged the efforts of employees who are on the front lines of COVID-19 response and public administration through open dialogue with public officials from eup, myeon, and dong.
The city announced on the 6th that recently, Mayor Kang In-gyu held a ‘Generational Empathy Talk’ session to create a happy workplace culture with team leaders and grade 8-9 public officials from eup, myeon, and dong, totaling about 40 people, at Naju Jeongmiso.
Under the motto “Public officials must be happy for citizens to be happy,” the city has been promoting open dialogue between the mayor and employees since 2019 to foster a happy public service culture and activate internal communication.
The dialogue venue, Naju Jeongmiso, was remodeled as part of the urban regeneration of the Eupseong area and reborn under the name ‘Nanjang Gokgan,’ serving as a diverse cultural and artistic space for residents.
The dialogue session was conducted in the order of an acoustic guitar performance and coffee time to create a comfortable atmosphere, followed by conversations and Q&A with employees, and a commemorative photo session.
During the sincere 60-minute conversation, employees suggested improvements such as ‘improving open restroom facilities at the Administrative Welfare Center,’ ‘easing emergency duty related to natural disasters,’ ‘considering implementation of lunch break leave system,’ ‘improving the operation method for regular foot-and-mouth disease vaccine administration,’ and ‘installing unmanned issuance machines.’
Mayor Kang said, “Although some issues are realistically difficult to reflect, I will personally take care of problems that can be solved immediately or need review and actively resolve employees’ work difficulties.”
He added, “Creative and fresh ideas from younger generation employees and the experience and wisdom of team leaders must harmonize. I hope public officials will have a sense of mission and provide active and friendly services for citizen happiness on the front lines of public administration.”
