Gangwon-do, Joint Crackdown on Illegal Fishing of 'Growing Season Fish and Shellfish' in Autumn
10.12~20 Intensive Crackdown on Key Wholesale Markets and Traditional Markets by City and County
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The East Coast Headquarters of Gangwon Province will conduct inspections and crackdowns on illegal fishing throughout October, coinciding with the autumn growth season of fish and shellfish.
The East Coast Headquarters announced on the 6th that "from the 12th to the 20th will be designated as a focused crackdown period, during which key wholesale markets and traditional markets in each city and county will also be simultaneously inspected" in relation to the protection of fishery resources.
In particular, following this year's strengthened regulations on minimum size limits, the headquarters will intensively crack down on fishing activities during the prohibited period for snow crab (June 1 to November 30) and the capture and distribution of female snow crabs, which are banned year-round, including flatfish (from 21 to 35 cm) and spear squid (from 12 to 15 cm).
The main crackdown targets include ▲ fishing, distribution, and sales of aquatic products below the minimum size or weight and prohibited species ▲ non-compliance with approval conditions for the use of double-layered gill nets ▲ illegal activities related to cooperative fishing between nearshore hook-and-line fishing and trawling.
