Four-Digit Record Maintained for 91 Consecutive Days
The number of new COVID-19 cases has dropped below 2,000. After consistently recording figures in the 2,000s since the 24th of last month, the count fell to the 1,600s for the first time in 11 days. According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 1,515 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded nationwide from midnight to 9 p.m. on that day. This is 43 more than the 1,472 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Compared to the mid-day count of 1,916 cases on Monday a week ago (September 27), it is 401 fewer cases.
By region, 1,101 cases (72.7%) were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 414 cases (27.3%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, Seoul reported 515 cases, Gyeonggi 480, Incheon 106, Gyeongnam 68, Gyeongbuk 57, Daegu 49, Busan and Chungbuk each 42, Daejeon 39, Chungnam 34, Gangwon 23, Jeonbuk 17, Gwangju 14, Jeonnam 13, Ulsan 11, and Jeju 5. Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, Sejong has not yet reported any confirmed cases.

Since there is still time left until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0:00 on the 5th is expected to increase further to around the 1,700 range. However, since the number of tests significantly decreases on holidays, the increase in confirmed cases may not be as large compared to weekdays. On the previous day, 201 cases were added after 6 p.m., closing at a final count of 1,673 cases.
