LG HelloVision Cultivates 'Digital Farmers' in ICT-Disadvantaged Areas
Regional-Based 'Smart Farm Education Solution' Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG HelloVision plans to implement a 'smart agriculture' practical environment in local areas, starting with agricultural high schools within the year.
LG HelloVision announced on the 5th that it will launch the first 'Smart Farm Education Solution' project at Seosan Jungang High School in Chungcheongnam-do this year.
This project was promoted with a focus on smart agriculture, which has evolved as a future local growth industry. By providing an educational solution that helps utilize core smart greenhouse technologies combining ICT and agriculture, it lowers the entry barriers to agriculture and supports the cultivation of 'digital farmers.'
This smart farm education solution is a joint product with Meity, a company specializing in smart farm content. Users can check crop changes in real time according to various growth conditions such as temperature, humidity, and weather. It also offers ▲smart farm video lectures by professional instructors ▲customized simulation practice (virtual greenhouse control, crop cultivation tutorials) ▲big data result analysis (feedback linked to data from excellent farms).
Along with providing customized solutions for each institution, the equipment model has also been diversified. Institutions can choose between an on-premise model, which builds a server to use the learning system independently according to their situation, and a cloud model, which allows learning in the cloud without equipment.
This is expected to be good news for agricultural high schools that have faced difficulties in practical smart farm education. Due to cost, it has been difficult to install and maintain smart farm greenhouse equipment, and there were physical constraints on repetitive practice.
LG HelloVision will expand its convergence education solution business to foster local talent and promote mutual growth. It plans to broaden the supply targets to general high schools, local government agricultural technology centers, and aspiring farmers, and is also considering an educational platform linked to smart livestock and fisheries.
Kim Ji-yong, principal of Seosan Jungang High School, said, “We hope that students, who are familiar with non-face-to-face environments, will enjoy abundant online-based smart farm education content and customized practical opportunities, growing splendidly as next-generation agricultural talents.”
