Biden Calls Cybercrime Response Meeting with South Korea and 29 Other Countries
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The White House in the United States is holding a virtual meeting attended by 30 countries, including South Korea, to respond to ransomware and cryptocurrency-related cybercrimes.
According to major foreign media on the 1st (local time), President Joe Biden announced in a statement that a meeting will be held this month to discuss combating cybercrime, improving law enforcement cooperation, preventing the illegal use of cryptocurrencies, and diplomatic engagement on these issues.
The meeting, hosted by the White House National Security Council (NSC), will be held under the name "Anti-Ransomware Initiative."
South Korea is also known to be a participant, but the participating countries and the meeting schedule have not been specifically disclosed.
The US NSC announced on the 9th of last month that South Korea and the US held the first ransomware working group meeting to discuss cooperation measures to combat cybercrime.
This meeting is convened amid a series of cyberattacks on US companies this year and the Biden administration prioritizing cybersecurity response policies.
