[2021 National Audit] Han Junho: "Structural Measures Needed to Prevent Platform Monopoly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There have been calls for the government to actively introduce structural measures to prevent monopolies by platform companies.
At the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee (STIBC) audit on the 1st, Assemblyman Han Junho of the Democratic Party demanded that the government introduce checks and balances to prevent monopolies by online platform companies.
Assemblyman Han explained, "As the power of platforms grows stronger, the sprawling expansion of platform companies is affecting small business owners and the public," adding, "The U.S. House of Representatives has even suggested the possibility of breaking up platform companies, and a Platform Monopoly Termination Act has been proposed." He urged, "The Ministry of Science and ICT must introduce structural measures to prevent damage in the platform monopoly market." He also added, "Develop a dedicated platform organization within the Ministry of Science and ICT."
