Hong Jun-pyo's Women's Policy Pledge: "Strict Enforcement of Chemical Castration for Sex Offenders, Abolition of Gender Quotas"
"Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to Merge with Other Departments"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, announced a strong enforcement of chemical castration for heinous and habitual sex offenders as part of his women's and population policy pledges.
On the morning of the 1st, Hong held a press conference at his Yeouido camp in Seoul after presenting policy pledges under the theme "From Feminism to Humanism, From Feminism to Familism."
Hong stated, "Chemical castration is the most effective means to eradicate sex crimes," adding, "To create a safe society free from violence, we will cooperate with the courts to strongly enforce chemical castration for heinous and habitual sex offenders."
He continued, "We will strengthen the effectiveness of the electronic anklet system and revise laws and systems that are out of touch with reality, such as reduced punishment for intoxication and juvenile offenders."
Hong also expressed his intention to integrate the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family into other ministries. He said, "We will reduce the increasingly serious gender conflicts," and added, "We will gradually abolish the female quota system in line with the changes of the times and create a fair society based on ability and competence."
He further stated, "We will reduce various factors that provoke conflicts and reform systems that do not fit reality. We will implement genuine gender equality policies without discrimination or reverse discrimination."
As measures to overcome population issues, he proposed direct payment of childcare subsidies and allowances, expansion of public daycare centers, and full-day care support for elementary school students. He said, "We will consolidate various subsidies and allowances into integrated support up to age 12 and change to a 'direct payment method' to parents," adding, "We will expand public daycare centers, which currently account for only about 15%. We will also expand and improve support for private and home daycare centers."
