Recruitment for Participants in Gwangju Nam-gu's 'Smart Gonggi Play Craft Class'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) is publicly recruiting participants for the ‘Wise Craft Classroom,’ a program where resident artists of Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village and local residents come together to popularize creative activities in the craft field.
According to Nam-gu on the 30th, the ‘Wise Craft Classroom’ program, which showcases the true essence of the craft industry, will be held from mid-October to the end of November at Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village located in Yang-gwa-dong.
This program was prepared to revitalize Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village and increase public interest in the craft industry, and it is operated through talent donation by resident artists of Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village.
Participants in the Wise Craft Classroom program will learn various craft techniques together with the artists while viewing the works and workshops of the resident artists at Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village.
The recruitment fields include 18 courses in six areas: ceramics, textiles, paper, metal, leather, daegeum (traditional bamboo flute), and traditional kite making and flying.
The number of participants is limited to 10 per course on a first-come, first-served basis, and 20 for the kite making and flying courses.
The tuition fee is free; however, participants are responsible for material costs required for the program, which range from 10,000 to 20,000 KRW.
Applications for the program will be accepted only by phone from the 30th to the 2nd of next month to prevent COVID-19, and any Gwangju citizen interested in the craft field can apply.
A Nam-gu official stated, “We will do our best to operate the program so that Gwangju citizens can have easier access to the craft field through the craft classroom and to further revitalize the traditional and modern craft industries.”
