Virtual, Extended, and Augmented Reality... Dong-Eui University and Busan Film Commission Develop 'Immersive Content' Production Talent
Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement, Realistic Content Education and Exchange... Collaboration to Support Employment and Startups
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dong-Eui University and the Busan Film Commission signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement on the 29th at Dong-Eui University to train personnel for the production of ‘immersive content’.
The two organizations will cooperate on ▲commissioned education necessary for collaborative projects ▲exchange of human and material resources and activation of joint projects ▲joint support of educational facilities, equipment, and materials ▲training of practical talents and employment support ▲joint operation and development of educational programs such as field training and mentoring to enhance student capabilities ▲exchange of academic materials and related technical information, among other collaborations.
Attending the event were Dong-Eui University President Han Su-hwan, Vice President for External Affairs Kim Sun-ho, Dean of the ICT Engineering College Kim Chi-yong, Director of Planning Kim Cheol-min, Director of External Cooperation Lee Hong-bae, and professors Kim Lee-seok, Heo Eun-hee, and Kim Byung-chul from the Department of Film Studies.
From the Busan Film Commission, Chairman Kim In-su, Secretary General Seong Sang-chul, Head of Video Production Headquarters Jeong Hee-cheol, and members of the Studio Operations Team attended.
Dong-Eui University and the Busan Film Commission jointly operated the ‘2021 XR Immersive Content Production Professional Training Workshop’ as part of the ‘Creative Talent Development Certification Academy’ program under the 2021 Regional Leading University Development Project from August 24 to September 10.
Due to the positive purpose and outcomes of the training, the two institutions decided to extend the workshop operation until 2024.
Dong-Eui University President Han Su-hwan said, “Through close collaboration, we expect to present a leading model of industry-academia cooperative education and produce excellent immersive content production personnel who will lead the future film and video industry, contributing to regional industrial development.”
Busan Film Commission Chairman Kim In-su expressed hope that “this will greatly help cultivate the practical skills of Dong-Eui University students while securing professional immersive content production personnel within Busan.”
The ‘2021 XR Immersive Content Production Professional Training Workshop,’ which served as the foundation for the agreement, was conducted with a select group of students from Dong-Eui University’s Department of Film Studies, graduate students from the Film and Video Content Department, and industry professionals in the field. It aimed to strengthen employment and entrepreneurship competitiveness in various fields such as film, advertising, music videos, one-person media, and live concert video production.
Top experts in the immersive content production industry were invited as instructors to focus on understanding AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), XR (Extended Reality) content that will lead the future film and video industry, and the use of the Unreal Engine program.
Participants had practical experience producing a music video based on the XR environment and demonstrated it at XON Studio. Located in Ilsan, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, this facility is the first LED Walls studio in Korea.
Dong-Eui University and the Busan Film Commission will jointly conduct training for immersive content personnel.

Professor Kim introduced, “To revitalize the high value-added immersive content market and create jobs, we strategically planned this in cooperation with the Busan Film Commission to preemptively establish a personnel training system in preparation for the increasing demand for future-oriented immersive content after the post-COVID era.”
Dong-Eui University and the Busan Film Commission will jointly conduct practical training to swiftly respond to the rapidly changing content industry environment, including virtual production, metaverse, and IP (intellectual property) universes, driven by the growth of the XR immersive content industry market.

Dean Kim Chi-yong of the ICT Engineering College explained, “We have been able to establish an industry-academia-government convergence-type personnel training system that will lead the domestic immersive content market.”
