[Featured Stock] TScientific Rises on Appreciation for Korea University Alumni Amid Hong Jun-pyo's Leading Support in People Power Party Polls
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] T Scientific's stock price is on the rise. As Hong Jun-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, continues his upward trend by ranking first in the party's next presidential candidate suitability poll, attention has been drawn to the fact that the company's full-time auditor is an alumnus of Korea University Law School, like Hong, leading to the stock being grouped as related.
As of 10:02 AM on the 29th, T Scientific's stock price recorded 3,470 KRW, up 5.31% compared to the previous day. This is believed to be due to its classification as a theme stock related to Hong, who has shown strength in the recent presidential candidate race. The company's full-time auditor, Moon Gui-yeon, a representative lawyer of the law firm Jun, graduated from Korea University Law School, the same as Hong.
Meanwhile, on the 27th, MBC commissioned Korea Research, a public opinion polling agency, to conduct a telephone survey of 1,001 people nationwide aged 18 and over from the 25th to 26th. In this survey, candidate Hong ranked first in suitability as the People Power Party's presidential candidate with 35.3%. He led former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, who recorded 25.2%, by 10.1 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
The survey was conducted entirely via wireless telephone interviews using 100% virtual numbers from three telecommunications companies. The sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of August 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The response rate was 23.1% (1,001 responses out of 4,337 contacted). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For detailed information, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
In a hypothetical one-on-one contest with Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, Hong recorded a support rate 7.3 percentage points higher than Lee, showing a lead outside the margin of error. When asked, "If the next presidential election is between Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung and People Power Party candidate Hong Jun-pyo, whom would you support?" 46.6% responded they would support Hong, while 39.3% supported Lee. "Other candidates" accounted for 7.5%, "None" 5.7%, and "Don't know" 0.7%.
