2021 National Tax Statistics 3rd Interim Release
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] As of the first half of this year, the cumulative national tax arrears have been estimated to approach 99 trillion won. Based on tax items, the arrears for value-added tax and income tax alone exceeded 48 trillion won.
According to the national tax statistics released by the National Tax Service on the National Tax Statistics Portal (TASIS) on the 29th, as of the end of June this year, the cumulative national tax arrears amounted to 98.7367 trillion won. The cumulative arrears refer to the sum of arrears under settlement and arrears on hold, meaning arrears for which the statute of limitations on national tax collection rights has not been completed.
Among these, arrears under settlement amount to 9.9406 trillion won (10.1%), and arrears amount to 88.7961 trillion won (89.9%). Arrears under settlement are managed through individual collection activities for arrears with a high likelihood of collection, such as those with property holdings, while arrears on hold are converted to computerized management for arrears with a low likelihood of collection and are managed afterward.
By tax item, value-added tax accounts for 26.6124 trillion won (36.6%), income tax 21.8892 trillion won (30.1%), capital gains tax 11.847 trillion won (16.3%), and corporate tax 8.4959 trillion won (11.7%), in that order.
By tax office, Seocho Tax Office recorded the highest amount at 2.3657 trillion won, followed by Gangnam (2.3178 trillion won), Ansan (2.2169 trillion won), Samsung (2.2123 trillion won), and Yeoksam (2.0947 trillion won). The tax offices with the lowest arrears were Yeongdeok (55.4 billion won), Namwon (88.4 billion won), Hongcheon (89.2 billion won), Yeongwol (91.5 billion won), and Yeongdong (96.3 billion won).
This disclosure of national tax statistics was changed from publishing the National Tax Statistical Yearbook every December and releasing national tax statistics twice before the yearbook publication to a more timely information provision by switching to ad hoc disclosure starting this year.
This is the third ad hoc disclosure following the first ad hoc disclosure in April (60 items) and the second in June (143 items), releasing a total of 99 national tax statistics items, including eight new statistics in the collection field.
