Yeosu City Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Activities in Urban Parks
Drinking, Eating, and Not Wearing Masks in Dansok Park
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do has launched a focused crackdown on drinking and other activities in urban parks to create a pleasant urban park environment and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Even amid a surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases to a historic high of over 3,000 nationwide after the Chuseok holiday, there have been concerning cases of drinking, eating, and not wearing masks in city parks after 10 p.m., when business hours of stores end. Therefore, the city has decided to strengthen the crackdown on illegal activities in urban parks.
Yeosu City has organized a crackdown team of 15 members divided into 4 groups to conduct inspections at seven urban parks, including Geobukseon Park and Ungcheon Waterfront Park, until November 30.
The focus will be on enforcing compliance with quarantine guidelines such as prohibiting nighttime drinking, eating, and mask-wearing violations.
Before the crackdown, the city posted promotional materials to eradicate prohibited acts and encourage social distancing within the parks. During the enforcement process, they will first urge voluntary dispersal and then take strong administrative actions such as fines and prosecutions if necessary.
A city official stated, “Due to shortened business hours under social distancing level 3 and the cool weather, many citizens are visiting urban parks. We will continue strict enforcement to ensure the safety of the majority of citizens who use the parks while complying with quarantine rules.”
Meanwhile, the entire Yeosu area is under social distancing level 3, which restricts the use of restaurants and cafes after 10 p.m.
