Foreigners and Family Gathering Cases Continue... 20 Confirmed in Gwangju on the 28th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] In the Gwangju area, the increase related to confirmed cases from other cities and provinces due to the holiday season and the spread centered on foreigners continues.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 28th, as of 2 p.m. that day, 20 additional confirmed cases were classified as numbers 4930 to 4949.
There were 6 cases related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu, 4 related to existing confirmed cases, 1 related to other cities and provinces, and 9 under investigation for infection routes.
All confirmed cases related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu were foreigners with nationalities including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Sierra Leone.
Among the 4 related to existing confirmed cases, 3 were confirmed to have been infected within the family after having a family gathering in Hampyeong, Jeonnam during the holiday season. The other 1 was found to have been infected by overlapping movement paths with a confirmed case at a pub in Dong-gu.
The 1 confirmed case related to other cities and provinces was infected through contact with a family member who was a confirmed case in Seoul.
Looking at the recent representative occurrence status by type, the highest number was 331 related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu. This was followed by 107 at workplaces employing foreigners, 41 related to a middle school in Buk-gu, 19 family gatherings in Seo-gu, 10 entertainment facilities in Seo-gu, 9 bathhouses in Dong-gu, and 6 entertainment establishments in Seo-gu.
Meanwhile, the day before, confirmed cases related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu and family transmission occurred at one elementary school in Gwangsan-gu and one middle school in Seo-gu, respectively, and on-site evaluations were conducted at both schools.
As a result of conducting mass testing on 682 students and staff, all tested negative, and 112 were placed under self-quarantine.
