[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The Small and Medium Business Ombudsman (vice ministerial level) announced that it has contributed to the expansion of non-face-to-face online education for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), small business owners, and self-employed individuals.
Despite demands from SMEs, small business owners, and self-employed individuals, such as one-person businesses, for the introduction of online education systems due to difficulties in participating in group education, related ministries were reluctant to adopt online education, citing concerns over reduced educational effectiveness.
In response, the Ombudsman investigated job training with online education demand over the past three years and consulted with the relevant ministries. In particular, the Ombudsman actively emphasized the difficulty of face-to-face or group education due to the spread of COVID-19 and persuaded the related ministries.
As a result, online education courses have been established or service projects for introducing online education have been promoted for job training of rural lodging business operators (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), disinfection workers (Ministry of Health and Welfare), and livestock product business workers (Ministry of Food and Drug Safety), achieving tangible outcomes.

Park Ju-bong, the Small and Medium Business Ombudsman, stated, "The introduction of online education by industry has been evaluated as preventing educational gaps caused by COVID-19 and increasing convenience for small business owners such as one-person self-employed individuals," adding, "We will continue to actively consult focusing on industries with high demand for online job training and propose measures to enhance the effectiveness of education."
