[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] BGF Retail announced on the 28th that it will collaborate with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to carry out a joint project for the development and demonstration of security technologies for safe smart stores.

BGF Retail and KISA signed a memorandum of understanding on the same day to support the activation of the domestic unmanned retail security industry. Based on this agreement, both parties will jointly pursue ▲ development and advancement of physical and information security technologies related to unmanned retail ▲ discovery and support for technology development of promising domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) related to unmanned retail security technologies ▲ and the expansion of overseas markets for domestic unmanned retail products and platforms.

BGF Retail will provide demonstration stores and related environments where security technologies related to unmanned stores owned by domestic SMEs can be applied in real field conditions and their effectiveness verified. Additionally, it will support research data and operational know-how to help SMEs advance their unmanned store security technologies, and together with KISA, seek win-win cooperation plans to revitalize the related industry based on the results obtained.

The demonstration store will be a fully unmanned convenience store, opening next month at KISA in Naju, Jeollanam-do. It will implement physical and informational security systems necessary for store entry, payment, and movement using purely domestic technologies. The store will employ deep learning and machine learning technologies to quickly detect abnormal behaviors such as theft, damage, and disturbances, as well as emergencies like patient incidents, fires, power outages, earthquakes, and floods. The security system will also be linked with the National Police Agency, 119 emergency services, and the National Disaster Management Information System.

BGF Retail plans to complete the establishment of a fully unmanned store demonstration environment based on purely domestic technologies using CU by the end of this year, while KISA will develop security models and guidelines for fully unmanned stores starting next year.
