Ministry of Employment to Hold 'Work-Life Balance Contest' Until October 27
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 28th that it will hold the 'Work-Life Balance Excellent Company Case Contest' until the 27th of next month.
The contest is conducted by soliciting on-site essays about exemplary work-life balance system practices and achievements. Participants can apply with themes that contribute to improving the quality of life for workers and enhancing corporate competitiveness by reforming long working hour cultures.
The 16 outstanding case winners will be announced in November. The grand prize winner will receive 3 million KRW and the Minister of Employment and Labor Award.
Entries can include handwritten accounts of utilizing flexible work systems such as telecommuting, introducing the right to request reduced working hours, promoting the use of annual leave to improve long working hour practices, utilizing work-family balance systems such as parental leave and family care leave, and participation in work-life balance campaigns.
The right to request reduced working hours is a system that allows workers to request a reduction of weekly working hours to 15-30 hours for family care, health management, retirement preparation, studies, and more. The work-life balance campaign is a pledge campaign encouraging companies to voluntarily practice three main tasks: not working long hours, working smartly, and taking proper rest.
Companies wishing to participate can submit their cases and effects of work culture innovation systems via email or on the work-life balance website. More detailed information can be found on the website and blog.
