'Post-COVID, the Future of Regions' Ministry of the Interior and Safety & Ulsan, International Conference on Social Innovation
International Academic Conference Held with Social Innovation Experts from Korea, the UK, Sweden, and Taiwan
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 27th that it will jointly hold the '2021 Ulsan Social Innovation Conference' with Ulsan Metropolitan City from the 28th to the 30th.
Under the theme "The Future of Regions Found in Social Innovation in the Post-COVID Era," this conference was organized to explore the direction regions should take for a sustainable urban transition through social innovation after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Experts in social innovation from various fields both domestic and international, including Ulsan, Gangwon Chuncheon and Jeongseon, Mokpo, Jeju, as well as the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Taiwan, will participate. The event will be held over three days until September 30th, following COVID-19 prevention guidelines through small-scale face-to-face meetings and non-face-to-face YouTube live streaming.
On the 2nd and 3rd days, under the theme "Urban Capabilities for Transition," various discussions will continue on citizen participation and digital social innovation, local communities and regional assetization, hub-type intermediary support organizations, and social innovation ecosystems.
Ko Gyu-chang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "One of the levers for urban transition responding to the new era is social innovation," adding, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is also actively supporting the creation of communication and cooperation spaces that lower the participation barriers for local residents. We hope this conference will open the door for domestic and international exchanges and increase the participation of Ulsan citizens."

Meanwhile, Ulsan Metropolitan City was selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's regional hub communication and cooperation space creation and operation contest and plans to transform part of the old Jungbu Fire Station in Seongnam-dong into a regional social innovation hub space.
