Seocho-gu's 'CPTED Signage' Illuminating Safe Return Paths for Women
‘Eco-friendly Solar Type’ CPTED Signboards, No Additional Electricity Charges... Installation Sites Selected in Consultation with Police Stations, 20 Crime-Vulnerable Sections on Women’s Safe Return Routes Equipped
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) has installed and is operating ‘CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) signboards’ this month at 20 women’s safe return routes within the district to create an environment where women can walk home safely.
The district’s CPTED signboards enhance nighttime visibility so that the signs are clearly visible even in the dark, and provide a subtle streetlight effect to aid nighttime walking.
Additionally, they are eco-friendly solar-powered types, so no separate electricity costs are incurred.
Moreover, the CPTED signboards help quickly identify the current location in case of an emergency to facilitate prompt reporting, and inform residents using the sidewalks that the area is under focused police patrol, helping to alleviate various crime-related anxieties.
The selection of installation locations was done in collaboration with local police, considering factors such as ▲places with almost no attachments like traffic signs or CCTV enforcement signs ▲places with almost no business signs ▲selection of content and design that can complement already installed Police Spot signboards.
The district has put great effort into creating safe return routes where women can feel secure. In particular, by strengthening safety zones around subway stations, it has continuously supplemented and improved safety facilities such as emergency safety bells, Police Spots, high-mounted lighting, high-performance CCTVs, and support projects for separate male and female private restrooms, striving to minimize crime blind spots.
Furthermore, the district operates women’s safety measures such as ‘Seoripul Bodyguard,’ ‘Seocho Molka (hidden camera) Security Guard,’ and ‘Seocho Women’s Safe Return Scout Firefly’ to foster a residential environment where women can feel safe.
