Car Bomb Terror Near Somali Presidential Palace
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] A car bomb attack occurred near the presidential palace in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, resulting in 8 deaths.
According to major foreign media on the 25th (local time), the police announced that 8 people were killed and 7 injured in the car suicide bombing that took place in the morning, with most of the deceased being civilians.
The bomb attack occurred at a checkpoint near Villa Somalia, the presidential palace.
Witnesses explained that the bomb in the vehicle exploded when the police stopped the driver for a security check, and the flames spread to nearby vehicles.
Officials reported that among the deceased was Hibak Abukar, the female and human rights advisor to Prime Minister Mohamed Roble.
Prime Minister Roble strongly condemned the terrorist attack, saying that "a young woman who worked honestly and diligently, a devoted citizen" has died.

The radical Islamist armed group Al-Shabaab, active locally, stated in a statement that they carried out the terrorist attack, saying, "The mujahideen (Islamic jihadists) conducted a martyrdom operation targeting the main security checkpoint of the presidential palace."
