Safe Water Leisure Activities on the Han River Established
Seoul City Councilor Song Myunghwa Enacts 'Han River Water Leisure Activity Safety and Revitalization Ordinance'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Song Myunghwa, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Gangdong District 3rd Constituency), announced that she took the lead in proposing the "Ordinance on the Safety and Revitalization of Water Leisure Activities on the Han River in Seoul" at the 302nd extraordinary session of the Seoul Metropolitan Council held from August 27 to September 10. After review by the standing committee, the ordinance was approved as originally proposed at the plenary session.
The ordinance on the safety and revitalization of water leisure activities on the Han River in Seoul was enacted to contribute to improving the quality of life for citizens by establishing a safe environment for water leisure activities on the Han River and stipulating necessary matters for the revitalization of water leisure activities through the ordinance.
The main contents include the establishment of the Han River Water Leisure Safety Management Plan, compliance and management of safety in water leisure activities on the Han River, formation and operation of the Han River Water Leisure Safety Council, support projects, creation of Han River water leisure facilities, education, and publicity.
At the Han River parks managed by the Han River Project Headquarters of Seoul City, a total of 14 water leisure companies are registered across 8 parks, operating water leisure businesses such as motorboats, water skiing, jet skiing, and yachting.
Recently, the population engaged in water leisure activities has been increasing, and the related industry is also growing rapidly. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a foundation for safe water leisure activities on the Han River and create a system that can revitalize water leisure activities and businesses in a desirable direction.
In particular, since water leisure activities take place in the special space of water and mostly involve powered water leisure equipment, the possibility of safety accidents is high, making the creation of a safe environment for water leisure activities extremely important.
