[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The White House announced that as the semiconductor supply shortage situation prolongs, it has established an early warning system for the global semiconductor supply chain.
On the 23rd (local time), the White House explained through a blog post that the early warning system will detect semiconductor supply disruptions early and support rapid problem resolution and coordination among the companies involved.
Additionally, it stated that it will support public health responses such as worker health to ensure semiconductor factories can safely resume operations.
The White House added that this system will be implemented through voluntary participation of companies and is designed to protect companies' trade secrets and patents.
To operate the early warning system, the Department of Commerce will collaborate with the Department of State and U.S. embassies in various countries. The U.S. foreign aid agency USAID and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will also cooperate.
Separately, the White House stated that the Department of Commerce is conducting voluntary surveys of companies to devise alternatives to semiconductor supply chain issues.
The White House also reiterated that without building a resilient semiconductor supply chain, U.S. companies and consumers will suffer from confusion and price surges, emphasizing the need for funding support from Congress.
