Harris, U.S. Vice President, Likely to Propose $10 Billion Fund for Pandemic Preparedness
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is set to propose the establishment of a $10 billion (approximately 11.84 trillion KRW) fund to prepare for future pandemic outbreaks, major foreign media reported on the 22nd (local time).
According to White House officials, Vice President Harris will officially announce this proposal during a COVID-19 virtual meeting held as a side event of the United Nations General Assembly. The White House official stated that to support the fundraising effort, the United States will first announce a donation of $250 million. Additionally, the newly established $10 billion Global Health Security Financial Intermediary Fund will be set up under the World Bank.
The COVID-19 virtual meeting aims to end the COVID-19 pandemic by the end of next year. Vice President Harris will chair the future pandemic prevention session.
