"US to Allow Entry of Europeans Starting November"
Policy to Appease European Backlash on the Occasion of the UN General Assembly
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States is reportedly set to lift its policy restricting entry of Europeans and British nationals. This move is interpreted as an effort to alleviate dissatisfaction among European countries ahead of the opening of the United Nations General Assembly.
On the 20th (local time), CNN cited sources saying that the U.S. will allow entry of Europeans and British nationals starting November, with COVID-19 vaccination being a mandatory entry requirement for adults.
The U.S. has restricted entry of citizens from European Union countries and the United Kingdom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The White House is expected to announce regulations related to international travel later today.
Some analysts suggest that the White House's move aims to reverse public opinion amid strong backlash from European U.S. allies such as France, following the formation of the 'AUKUS' alliance last week between Anglo-Saxon countries?the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Leaders of various European countries have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the U.S. ban on their citizens' entry.
Europe allowed U.S. citizens to enter their countries ahead of the holiday season in June, but the U.S. did not reciprocate, which has intensified dissatisfaction among European nations.
