[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] Yoo Seung-min, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, described President Moon Jae-in's mention of the COVID-19 vaccination rate as a "self-praise virus."
On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in stated on his Facebook post, "36 million people have received the first dose, and 70% of the total population completed the first dose within 204 days since the vaccination began." He also added, "Although the first dose alone does not solve everything, if the second dose is expedited, the situation will gradually improve," and "I hope all citizens stay strong and hopeful."
However, on the same day, former lawmaker Yoo wrote on his Facebook post, "Is there no self-praise virus vaccine?" and said, "President Moon's self-praise about the vaccine has started again." Yoo pointed out, "President Moon called the achievement of a 70% first-dose vaccination rate an astonishing speed of vaccination, unmatched by others," but "most vaccines require the second dose to see proper effects."
Yoo also criticized, "Citizens remain anxious even after completing the second dose due to variant viruses," and "Yet, making a fuss over the first-dose vaccination rate is truly embarrassing to watch." He continued, "After deceiving the public with lies about vaccine procurement and driving self-employed people and small business owners to the brink due to failed quarantine responses, have you still not come to your senses?"

Yoo said, "If you were truly sorry to the self-employed who made extreme choices, you would not say such things," and criticized, "Is it appropriate for the president to ignore the voices of self-employed people and small business owners who are being driven to death and only offer false hope?" He concluded his post by saying, "If you are going to say words that do not comfort at all, it is better to keep your mouth shut," and "That is the real way to care for the people."
