[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Kim Kyung-ho) held a songpyeon sharing ceremony on the 16th for 50 multicultural families residing in Gangseo-gu to support a warm Chuseok holiday for multicultural families whose lives have become difficult due to the implementation of Level 4 social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The recipients of this sharing event were mainly selected from low-income multicultural families, and the selection and distribution were carried out with the cooperation of the Gangseo-gu Multicultural Family Support Center.
For the past five years, the corporation has held songpyeon-making experience events for multicultural families, but due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 infection, this year, as last year, the face-to-face event was replaced with songpyeon sharing, and health masks to overcome the COVID-19 crisis were delivered along with the Chuseok songpyeon.

President Kim Kyung-ho said, “We planned the songpyeon sharing with the hope that multicultural families, our neighbors, would not feel alienated during the Chuseok holiday in a situation where adapting to life in Korea has become more difficult due to strengthened social distancing for COVID-19 prevention,” adding, “I hope that by tasting songpyeon, they can experience the unique customs of our people and spend time together as a family overcoming COVID-19.”
