‘Sangju Hyanggyo’ and the old house ‘Ojakdang’ in Gyeongbuk have been selected for the cultural heritage contest project.
On the 16th, Sangju City announced that two projects were selected in next year’s ‘Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Contest Project,’ securing 116 million KRW in national and local government funds.
This contest project is conducted annually by the Cultural Heritage Administration targeting local governments nationwide to increase ways to utilize local cultural heritage and to combine historical significance and value with local human and material resources, thereby expanding opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture.
In this year’s contest, Sangju City had two projects selected: ‘Sangju Hyanggyo’ for the Hyanggyo and Seowon cultural heritage utilization project, and ‘Ojakdang’ for the old house and head family utilization project. This is the first time two projects have been selected in one year.
The Hyanggyo and Seowon utilization project allows participants to enjoy various programs within the serene scenery of Sangju Hyanggyo.
It includes experiences of traditional Confucian scholar etiquette culture and the inheritance of traditional customs and manners.
The old house and head family utilization project will operate diverse programs such as a head family cooking class using Ojakdang Old House, Gyeongbuk Folklore Cultural Property No. 32, a day in the countryside experience in Sangju, and a date with the autumn colors with farmers.
