Gangjin-gun Promotes Housing Stability for Vulnerable Groups through Love House Building Project

Completion and Move-in Ceremony for the 32nd Love House Building ⓒ Asia Economy

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 16th, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it completed the thirty-second Love House construction and held a move-in ceremony to provide a warm home for a single elderly person.

The move-in ceremony was attended by County Governor Lee Seung-ok, Chairman Wi Seong-sik, Kim Dong-geuk, Secretary General of the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, Ma Sam-seop, President of the Korean Filial Piety Association Gangjin Branch, members, and 45 village residents to celebrate the move-in.

In February, the county identified a household exposed to collapse and fire risks due to housing deterioration and promoted the Love House construction project by matching funds from the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea’s Housing Construction Matching Grant Support Project, sponsorship from the Korean Filial Piety Association Gangjin Branch, and designated donations from Wi Seong-sik of the Honor Society.

With a total project cost of 40 million KRW, including 10 million KRW from Gangjin-gun, 20 million KRW from the Jeonnam Community Chest, 5 million KRW from the Korean Filial Piety Association Gangjin Branch, and 5 million KRW from Wi Seong-sik Honor Society, construction began on a 12-pyeong (approximately 39.7 square meters) house.

However, due to rising construction costs, there were difficulties in proceeding with the project, but upon hearing the news, executives of the Korean Filial Piety Association Gangjin Branch collectively raised an additional 2.5 million KRW to support and complete the construction.

The single elderly resident of Seongjeon Geomok Village who moved into the new home expressed joy and gratitude, saying, “I am thankful for the comfortable and cozy new home; it feels like a dream. I want to live happily here for a long time.”

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “I deeply thank the Jeonnam Community Chest, Gangjin Filial Piety Association, Honor Society member Wi Seong-sik, and Woo Yang Construction CEO Jeong Yang-su for rolling up their sleeves and helping to complete the 32nd Love House. Now, the number of housing-vulnerable households is increasing. Accordingly, Gangjin-gun aims to promote residential stability for residents through public rental housing provision and the Love House construction project.”
