The completion ceremony was attended by Ha Byung-pil, Acting Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, Kwon Bong-seok, CEO of LG Electronics, Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon, Ryu Jae-cheol, Head of LG Electronics H&A Business Division, Park Seong-gil, Head of Korea Industrial Complex Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, and Son Mu-gon, Vice Chairman of Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
LG Electronics signed a large-scale investment agreement on smart factory construction and employment with Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon City at the Gyeongsangnam-do investment attraction briefing in September 2017.
Since then, the active support of the public sector and the prompt investment implementation by the company have borne fruit.
LG Smart Park is a state-of-the-art facility that rebuilt the existing outdated factory equipment into an eco-friendly automated production system. Starting with the first phase completion of the Integrated Production Building on this day, the second phase will be completed in 2022, followed by the final completion in 2023.
As a result, LG Electronics' home appliance production capacity will increase by 50%, enabling faster response to diverse demands in the home appliance market, and the Changwon plant will be reborn as a core production facility for LG home appliances.
Until now, Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon City have experienced difficult times as the growth of the manufacturing industry, their main industry, slowed down, but the newly completed LG Electronics Changwon Plant 1 Integrated Production Building is expected to become a milestone for the region's future growth engine.
