British Prince Harry and Wife Feature on Time Magazine's '100 Most Influential People' Cover
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Prince Harry (37), Duke of Sussex, and his wife Meghan Markle (40, Duchess of Sussex), who settled in California, USA, after separating from the British royal family, have been featured on the cover of the weekly news magazine TIME as one of the "100 Most Influential People."
According to The Guardian and Daily Mail on the 15th (local time), Prince Harry, who celebrated his 37th birthday that day, appeared on the cover of TIME magazine together with Markle.
Dressed in black, Prince Harry stood behind his wife, who wore white, with a relaxed pose, gently resting his hand on her shoulder.
The photo was taken at the couple's residence in California.
Along with the cover photo, TIME published a profile by their friend and chef Jos? Andr?s, who runs the charity organization World Central Kitchen.
Andr?s praised the couple, saying, "They are full of enthusiasm and compassion, and they become the voice for those who cannot speak."
He added, "It is not an easy choice for a young duke and duchess blessed by birth and talent to act this way. It would be safer for them to enjoy their fortune quietly, but they did not. They stepped into difficult matters," he evaluated.
The couple expressed their humility about being included in the "100 Most Influential People" through the website of their charity, the Archewell Foundation.
They also left words of praise for Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), who was also included in the list.
Director-General Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.
The couple asked, "What is needed to vaccinate the world?" and answered, "Unity, cooperation, and leaders like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are needed."
Besides Prince Harry and Director-General Okonjo-Iweala, the TIME "100 Most Influential People" list includes Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny, pop star Britney Spears, and the "genius" Shohei Ohtani, who plays in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States.
Youn Yuh-jung, the first Korean to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and Korean-American actor Steven Yeun, who appeared together in the film "Minari," were also included in the list.
Meanwhile, the British royal family, which had an uncomfortable relationship during the couple’s separation process, congratulated Prince Harry on his 37th birthday through social media on the same day.
His elder brother, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, posted a photo of Prince Harry on Twitter with the message "Happy Birthday."
Queen Elizabeth II’s Twitter account also posted four photos, including one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle together.
