The event, which was previously held in the US and France, has now expanded to include the UK.
Jongga Jip, a representative kimchi brand of South Korea, has been making various efforts to promote Korea's excellent kimchi culture worldwide. The 'Jongga Jip Kimchi Cooking Contest' held in the US and France last year and earlier this year concluded successfully with a preliminary round competition ratio of 50 to 1. Recently, it also gained attention by releasing the kimchi documentary 'Kimchi Universe,' created in collaboration with the World Kimchi Research Institute, which captures the history and culture of kimchi.
This 'Jongga Jip Kimchi Blast' was planned to promote the excellence of fermented food kimchi globally and to lead global food culture trends. Through collaboration with the two leading culinary schools among the world's top three, Le Cordon Bleu and CIA, a high-level competition among participants is expected.
The main event, the kimchi cooking contest, will begin recruiting preliminary round participants starting from the UK on the 17th, followed by sequential registration in France and the US. Participants will submit recipes creatively using Jongga Jip kimchi as the main ingredient online. Then, 8 to 10 finalists selected through judging will compete in cooking battles in front of a panel of judges composed of top local chefs. Strict judging based on creativity, popularity, and hygiene of the dishes will award prize money to the top three winners.
Various events aimed at popularizing Korean kimchi culture among local residents will also be held. A kimchi festival where participants can experience making kimchi will take place in Paris, France, and Jongga Jip will participate with a booth at the 'Off the Grid' food truck market in San Francisco, USA. There are also plans to hold events offering 'Amuse Bouche'?bite-sized dishes served before the main meal?using Jongga Jip white kimchi in course meals at famous restaurants in each country.
